Jealousy (1) Embarrassment - The Beginning Towards Repairing Our Character Traits
Length: 65 min
Details
First in series based on a drashah (talk) by Rav Tzvi Meir Zilberberg of Yerushalem during the week of Parshas Korach 5757. A story about the taylor, one of the 36 righteous. There is no greater preparation for our return to Yerushalayim than fixing our midos (character traits), especially kinsh (jealousy). The Chidushei HaRim's testimony that he worked on himself for thirteen years to teach himself to be a person who has a generous eye. Hashem's command to be like Him to the extent possible and to cling to Him. The avodah (work) of the Yamim Nora'im (Days of Awe) is to re-establish Hashem as our King, and the avodah of Succos, with the four species, is to fix four specific midos (character traits). A recommendation to learn the sefer (available in English) Tomer Devorah (A Palmtree of Devorah). Activating the midah of chessed (compassion) by humbling oneself. How come it is so difficult to sustain the effort in fixing our middos? It is a good thing to feel embarrassed by ones failures, however we are often embarrassed to be caught by others, so admit that we are not perfect and have flaws. The beginning of this avodah is to overcome this childish embarrassment and denial of our flaws.
